Well when i play RTW i find the triarii verry usefull when my legion is being crushed i bring em out and they save me. I find them amazingly good against cavalry and elephants so u cant really say there was no reason for them. You need a way to take out the horses and elephants.



I never said they're not useful. ;)

Actually, the Romans used the Triarii as a back-up troop. They weren't a frontline troop, they were stationed in the back. When the general told the Triarii to start fighting everyone would know that this was the Roman's last line of men. Just a bit of history information there. :)

yes i play RTW and idk its just how the romans worked. The later romans didnt used triarii they just used different strategy im not sure what time period they did that but once they did all the troops used pilum not sure what time period your making this in. Im really only good at early roman history.

Except one problem, those three are prior to the Marian reforms. Afterwards, everyone became chainmailed armor Principe and javelins work well against elephants anywho.
